First Ever International SME Convention-2018 in New Delhi

Enlighten about the convention

  • The International SME Convention 2018 is a platform for intensive business discussion, progressive interaction and trade association between progressive entrepreneurs from all over the world and offers a special focus on business and trade opportunities in India for International Entrepreneurs.
  • The platform facilitates exchange of relevant business partnerships and trade opportunities for India's Best Small and Medium Enterprises.
  • The theme “Business Beyond Borders”, The Convention is set to be attended by smart entrepreneurs from the India TOP 10,000 SMEs program of INDIA SME FORUM.

Enlighten about the event detail

  • 150 participants from 31 countries and 400 entrepreneurs from India will participate in the four day International SME convention being held in New Delhi from 22ndto 24th April.
  • The Ministry of MSME has engaged with over 35 International Trade Development organisations to attract and invite able and willing entrepreneurs and encourage people to people contact with select Indian Entrepreneurs from key sectors of the International counterparts.
  • The convention has specific focus on inclusion of MSMEs in the Make in India program & empowering women entrepreneurs.

Enlighten about the role of MSME

  • The MoMSME recognizing the potential of sustainable Indian SMEs in collaborating with International Companies not only for setting up manufacturing operations in India but also for utilizing the reach and market access of International Counterparts for promoting and exporting Made in India products and services.
  • This convention will create a platform which could allow Entrepreneur – to – Entrepreneur exchange of ideas, free and fair business discussions, mutual sizing of opportunities and ways to address them.

Statics and status of MSME in India

  • India is home to more than 60 million MSMEs, majority of who are in low-tech areas and serve the local domestic markets.
  • Of these, a small percentage, have the ability and capability to derive access to International Markets, with the vast majority of enterprises working as ancillaries.
  • Together the MSMEs constitute a single largest employer after the Agriculture sector in India.

Regional Conference on “Urban Development: Technological Solutions and Governance Challenges” Where Ahmedabad

Organising Ministry

  • The Ministry of Finance, Government of India in collaboration with the Associated Chamber of Commerce and Industry of India (ASSOCHAM), Gujarat Council along with Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB), Research and Information System for Developing Countries (RIS), an autonomous research organization under the Ministry of External Affairs
  • These ministries organised the 2-day Regional Conference on “Urban Development: Technological Solutions and Governance Challenges”
  • The Conference is a lead-up event to the 3rd Annual Meeting of AIIB scheduled to be held on 25th and 26th June, 2018 in Mumbai.
  • The event was attended by eminent experts, policy practitioners, officials from central government, industry leaders, bilateral partners and representatives of the Multilateral Development Banks including AIIB to deliberate on the pertinent issues relating to financing,

Civil Services Day function

  • The Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances, Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions
  • Organizing a 2-day Civil Services Day function on April 20- 21, 2018.

Enlighten about the event

  • The Vice President of India Shri M. Venkaiah Naidu will be the Chief Guest at the inaugural function
  • The Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi will confer the Awards for Excellence in Public Administration for effective implementation of identified Priority Programmes and Innovation

PM Awards for Excellence in Public Administration

  • The Awards have been instituted with a view to recognize the extraordinary and innovative work done by Districts & Organizations of the Central and State Governments for the welfare of common citizen.

Following four priority programmes have been identified for the awards to be presented on Civil Services Day 2018:

  • i. Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana,
  • ii. Promoting Digital Payments,
  • iii. Pradhan MantriAwas Yojana – Urban & Rural, and
  • iv. Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Grameen Kaushalya Yojana.

Enlighten more about the event

  • The Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi will release two books, namely ‘New Pathways’ comprising of Success stories on implementation of identified Priority Programmes & Innovations and
  • Aspirational Districts: Unlocking Potentials’ on evolving strategies for transforming Aspirational Districts.
  • The Award ceremony will be preceded by the Plenary Session on ‘Artificial Intelligence for Effective Governance’ chaired by Shri Ravi Shankar Prasad, Minister of Law & Justice, Electronics & Information Technology.

Science and Technology

Chandrayan-2

  • The upcoming Moon mission “Chandrayaan-2”, expected to be launched from Sriharikota around October-November this year.
  • The mission is about Rs. 800 crore, which includes Rs. 200 crore as the cost of launching and Rs. 600 crore for the satellite.
  • This cost is almost half of the launch cost if the same mission had to be launched from a foreign launching site.
  • Chandrayaan-2 will be equipped with a lander and rover probe, which will descend on the surface of the moon, from where it will observe the lunar surface and send back data, which will be useful for analysis of the lunar soil.

Social Justice

Global IT Challenge for Youth with Disabilities (GITC) 2018 to be held in New Delhi from 8th To 11th November, 2018

  • Global IT Challenge for Youth with Disabilities (GITC), 2018” will be held in New Delhi during 8th to 11th November, 2018.
  • A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in this regard was signed between Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (DEPwD), Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment and Rehabilitation International Korea
  • As per MoU, both the parties have agreed to cooperate in making all arrangements for the successful events in providing all necessary financial, logistics, manpower and other facilities.
  • This event will have around 300 participants including 120 Youth with disabilities from 24 Asia Pacific countries.

Enlighten about GITC

  • GITC is being held every year in Asia- Pacific region and such events were held in the past in countries like Korea, China, Thailand, Vietnam etc.
  • This competition is amongst four categories of disabilities namely, Physical, Visual, Hearing and Intellectual.
  • India is co-hosting the event alongwith Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of Korea and its organising partners namely Rehabilitation International Korea and LG Group.
