Exercise Gaganshakti-2018

Gaganshakti is being conducted by the IAF from 08-22 Apr 18

  • Indian Air Force (IAF) is going to conduct Exercise Gaganshakti 2018, biggest air combat exercise along Pakistan, China borders between April 10 to 23, 2018.
  • The aim of this exercise is real time coordination, deployment and employment of Air Power in a short & intense battle scenario.
  • Though it is IAF centric exercise, it will also be executed keeping in mind “Joint Operational Doctrine” so that requirements of other services are also met.
  • During Gaganshakti IAF will exercise the entire machinery to validate its concept of operations and war waging capability.
  • This exercise is aimed at coordinating operations, maintenance and administrative responses to achieve the stated objectives of the Indian Air Force, in case of any contingency.
  • This exercise will hone the war fighting skills of the air warriors in a real time scenario thus affirming the IAF's role as the cutting edge of our nation's military capability.


Government of India, Government of Maharashtra and the World Bank sign New Project to benefit over 25 Million Small and Marginal Farmers in Maharashtra.

  • The Government of India, Government of Maharashtra and the World Bank signed US$ 420 million project to help Small and Marginal farmers in the Marathwada and Vidarbha regions of Maharashtra.
  • The project will help in increasing climate resilient practices in agriculture and ensuring that farming continues to remain a financially viable activity for them.
  • It is expected to benefit over 7 million people spread over an area of 3.0 million ha and cover 5,142 villages across 15 most climate vulnerable districts of the region.
  • The Maharashtra Project for Climate Resilient Agriculture will be implemented in rural areas largely dependent upon rainfed agriculture.
  • The project will take up a series of activities at the farm and watershed level.
  • It will scale up climate-resilient technologies such as micro irrigation systems, expand surface water storage, and facilitate aquifer recharge, which is expected to directly contribute to a more efficient use of scarce water resources.
  • By adopting climate-resilient seed varieties which have short maturity, are drought and heat resistant, and salt tolerant, the project will help reduce risks of climate-related crop failure, and help enhance farmer’s income.

4th National Workshop for Training on Autism

  • The three day National Workshop for Training of Master Trainers on AutismTools- INCLEN and ISAA for Diagnosis and Management of Autism Spectrum Disorder in Childrenhas started

Organising Ministry

  • The workshop is organised by the National Trust under Ministry of Social Justice and Empowermentin collaboration with AIIMS, New Delhi


  • The objective of this workshop is to make Doctors from across the country aware about Autism Tools to describe the diagnostic criteria as well as to clinically evaluate a child with suspected autism spectrum disorder using Autism Tools.

Enlighten about National Trust

  • It is a statutory body set up by an Act of Parliament for the Welfare of Persons with Autism, Cerebral Palsy, Mental Retardation and Multiple Disabilities underDEPwD.
  • The National Trust has been running various schemes and programmes for the welfare of these persons with disabilities
  • Amongst these one of the major activities is creating awareness amongst the general public by organizing workshops, seminars and conferences on these disabilities and the capabilities of such persons.

  • Autism, or autism spectrum disorder, refers to a range of conditions characterized by challenges with social skills, repetitive behaviors, speech and nonverbal communication, as well as by unique strengths and differences.


National Investment and Infrastructure Fund

  • The government’s National Investment and Infrastructure Fund (NIIF) and private equity firm Everstone are in talks
  • to manage Green Growth Equity Fund (GGEF).

Enlighten About GGEF

  • The Green Growth Equity Fund will be the second investment platform to be set up by NIIF.
  • It is a joint venture between NIIF and the UK government and GGEF invest in renewable energy assets
  • GGEF would be managed by a third-party investment manager, selected by NIIF Limited and the UK government through an efficient and robust screening and selection process.

Enlighten About NIIF

  • NIIF was set up in 2015 as an investment vehicle for funding commercially viable greenfield, brownfield and stalled projects in the infrastructure sector.
  • NIIF will invest in areas such as energy, transportation, housing, water, waste management and other infrastructure-related sectors in India.
  • The corpus of the fund is proposed to be around Rs40,000 crore, with the government investing 49% and the rest to be raised from third-party investors such as sovereign wealth funds, insurance and pension funds, endowments etc.

Enlighten about the joint exercise

  • This joint exercise is a part of a proposed establishment of a MoU between the Coast Guards of India and Korea to improve maritime security in the Indian Ocean Region.
  • As part of the exercise, ships of the Indian Coast Guard and the Korean vessel undertook strategic exercises and drills to counter piracy and carry out maritime law enforcement tasks.
  • The exercise witnessed varied scenarios such as the hijacking of a merchant vessel and its subsequent rescue, prohibition of a pirate vessel, cross boarding, fire fighting and the search and rescue (SAR) demonstration.
  • The joint exercise was aimed at developing working level co-operation and an enhanced inter-operability in the fields of maritime search and rescue.
