India-Russia Agriculture Business Summit Celebration of 70 years of India-Russia Agricultural Relations to be held in Suratgarh, Rajasthan on 14th February 2018

Enlighten about the summit -

  • Discussion in 4 theme sessions on potential areas of collaboration and trade in the fields of

1. Agriculture machinery
2. Sanitary and phytosanitary measures (both plants and animals)
3. Agriculture education and biotechnology
4. Fishery and sea products (including feeding, care and processing); and confectioner’s/baker’s, dry fruits and coconut products.

Central State Farm (CSF) in Suratgarh

  • The Russian and Indian delegations will visit Central State Farm (CSF) in Suratgarh, Rajasthan on 14.2.2018, which was set up in 1956 with assistance from erstwhile USSR.
  • Union Minister of State for Agriculture & Farmers Welfare and Deputy Minister of Russia will inaugurate Russian Machinery Museum, address a gathering of farmers in which the veterans of the farm will be facilitated, and also visit Cattle Breeding Centre.
  • Russian scientists helped in laying the foundation of agriculture in the deserts of Thar, which brought about a change in the agriculture farming in nearby areas including fringe area of Punjab.

India is the prime producer of milk and holding the number one position globally over the past two decades

  • The Department of Animal Husbandry, Dairying & Fisheries has initiated a number of schemes with the objective of doubling the dairy farmers’ income
  • In this direction, dairy farmers’ income could be raised in two ways – first, by increasing milk production by improving their productivity and second, through raising the price of raw milk per kilogram.

Rashtriya Gokul Mission

  • Rashtriya Gokul Mission was launched in December 2014 for the conservation and promotion of the indigenous breeds.
  • The Agriculture Minister said establishing Gokul Grams is one of the components of the Rashtriya Gokul Mission.

Gokul Grams

  • Gokul Grams will act as a centre for the development of the indigenous species and it will also supply animals to the farmers for breeding.
  • Currently, 18 Gokul Grams in 12 different states are being established.

National Kamdhenu Breeding Centres

  • The establishment of two National Kamdhenu Breeding Centres for the conservation and development of indigenous bovine breeds in Chintaladevi, Nellore in the Southern region and in Itarsi, Hoshangabad, in the Northern region.

National Mission on Bovine Productivity Scheme

  • National Mission on Bovine Productivity Scheme under Rashtriya Gokul Mission
  • The aim is to accelerate milk production and productivity and to also make the milk production more profitable.

Pashu Sanjivn

  • Pashu Sanjivn component is identifying 9 crore milch animals through UID, and the government has already sanctioned funds for this scheme.
  • The scheme also includes the provision of providing 'Nakul Swasthya Patra' to all these animals.

‘Indian Power Stations 2018’ - three-day International Conference on Operations and Maintenance

  • The NTPC to become India’s power sector multinational by setting up power plants in other Nations and become world’s largest power producer.
  • Huge opportunity to export cheap power to neighbouring countries which will be beneficial for the entire region.
  • Neighbouring countries like Sri Lanka, Myanmar, Nepal and Bangladesh are viable markets for export of power, where per unit cost of electricity is very high.

Access to the Port of Duqm in Oman for military use and logistical support Part of India’s maritime strategy to counter Chinese influence and activities in the region

Enlighten about MoU with Oman

  • Memorandum of Understanding on Military Cooperation was signed between the two countries
  • The services of Duqm port and dry dock will be available for maintenance of Indian military vessels

Enlighten about The Port of Duqm

  • The Port of Duqm is situated on the southeastern seaboard of Oman, overlooking the Arabian Sea and the Indian Ocean
  • It is strategically located, in close proximity to the Chabahar port in Iran
  • With the Assumption Island being developed in Seychelles and Agalega in Mauritius, Duqm fits into India’s proactive maritime security roadmap

Government Schemes

LPG Panchayat Hosted by the President of India at Rashtrapati Bhavan LPG Panchayatsas part of the Ujjwala Yojana process,

Organising body -

  • The LPG Panchayat was organised by the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas

Why -

  • Aim to provide a platform for LPG consumers to interact with each other, promote mutual learning and share experiences.

Enlighten about the Panchayat -

  • Each LPG Panchayat has about 100 LPG customers coming together, near their living areas,to discuss safe and sustainable usage of LPG, its benefits and the link between clean fuel for cooking and women’s empowerment.
  • The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas intends to conduct 1 lakh such Panchayats across India before March 31, 2019.

UjjawalaYojana

  • UjjawalaYojana is strengthening women’s empowerment.
  • He congratulated the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas for efforts to advance social justice through the health, welfare and empowerment of women.

Sahitya Akademi n

  • Chandrasekhar Kambar (Kannada litterateur) – elected as the President of sahitya akademi
  • Madhav Kaushik (Hindi poet) – Vice – President

Enlighten about Sahitya Akademi –

  • Inaugurated by the Government of India on 12th March 1954
  • It is an autonomous organisation
  • It is a central institution for literary dialogue, publication and promotion in the country and the only institution that undertake literary activity in 24 languages including English.
  • Akademi gives 24 awards annually to literary works in the languages it has recognized
  • Sahitya Akademi Awards is the second highest honor conferred by the Sahitya akademi next to Sahitya akademi fellowship
