Noro Virus

  • It is similar to rota virus that induces diahorrea and it infects people of all agr groups and it is highly contagious
  • The ongoing 23rd Olympic Winter Games t the South Korean city of Pyeongchang has been hit by disease caused by Noro Virus

Venezuela and Libya lose UN Vote for the third time

  • Both countries have been suspended from voting in the U.N General assembly for the third time in three years because of millions of dollars unpaid dues to the U.N
  • Minimum amount to be paid by both countries -
  • Venezuela – USD 25,200,296 and
  • Libya – USD 6,594,842
  • Both the countries must pay the above said amount to restore their voting rights


Don’t infringe our autonomy: Prasar Bharati to govt


  • The Prasar Bharti board refused to appoint a serving IAS officer as member (personnel) on grounds that the appointment would go against the norms laid down in The Prasar Bharati (Broadcasting Corporation of India) Act, 1990.

Jogighopa (Assam) To become India’s new gateway to South – East Asia

Enlighten about Jogighopa –

  • It is a small town in Assam which is set to become India’s gateway to South- East Asia as well as the rest of the North-East
  • A Multimodal Logistics park (MMLP) to be developed by the road Ministry through creation of a Special Purpose Vehicle which will execute this project in two phases
  • MMLP – All four types of transportation – road,rail,air and waterways will be available
  • Financed by- Asian Development Bank


Defence Acquisition Council

  • DAC has cleared procurement of some much needed fire power for the armed forces worth Rs 15,935 crore.
  • The list includes – light machine guns. Assault rifles and sniper rifles

  • To Counter corruption and speed up decision making in Military Procurement the government in 2001 decided to set up an integrated DAC.
  • It is headed by Defence Minister

DAC Objective –

  • To ensure expeditious procurement of the approved requirements of the Armed Forces
  • To optimally utilize the allocated budgetary

Watan ko Jano Youth Exchange Programme for J&K

  • The Union Home Minister Shri Rajnath Singh met the youth of Jammu and Kashmir under the Youth Exchange Programme “Watan Ko Jano” 2017-18
  • The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has been organising programme “Watan Ko Jano” to give exposure to the youth and children of Jammu and Kashmir about the cultural and socio-economic development taking place in other parts of the country.
  • Youth and children hit by militancy and from weaker sections of the society have been identified for the purpose
