Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and WHO sign an Agreement for enhanced cooperation in the health sector

CCRAS Developed a AYUSH Drug QOL-2C for Cancer Patients

  • Central Council for Research in Ayurvedic Sciences (CCRAS), an autonomous body under the Ministry of AYUSH has undertaken development of a coded drug AYUSH QOL-2C for improving the quality of life in cancer patients

“END TB” Summit

  • The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, addressed the inaugural session of the “END TB” summit in New Delhi.
  • India has set a target for complete elimination of TB by 2025, as against the global target date of 2030.
  • The Summit was co-hosted by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, WHO South East Asia Regional Office (SEARO) and Stop TB Partnership.
  • The Summit will continue the high-level dialogue that was started in Moscow last year during the Global Ministerial Conference to End TB.

National Conference on Counterfeiting and Role of Enforcement Agencies

Organising body

  • The Cell for IPR Promotion and Management (CIPAM)
  • in collaboration with European Union (EU)

why -

  • this conference will give a common platform to the national and international experts to have a dialogue and exchange best practices for the benefit of enforcement agencies and industry representatives and provide fresh ideas for further strengthening the IPR protection ecosystem.

Enlighten about CIPAM:

  • It has been created under the aegis of DIPP to take forward the implementation of the National IPR Policy that was approved by the Government in May 2016,
  • CIPAM is working towards creating public awareness about IPRs in the country, promoting the filing of IPRs through facilitation, providing inventors with a platform to commercialize their IP assets and coordinating the implementation of the National IPR Policy in collaboration with Government Ministries/Departments and other stakeholders.

Ministry of Women and Child Development

POSHAN (PM’s Overarching Scheme for Holistic Nourishment) Abhiyaan India Nutrition Report to be released by the Government

  • The Executive Committee which is the Apex body for all Nutrition related activities under the POSHAN Abhiyaan, held its first meeting today to decide on the roadmap for the Mission.
  • India Nutrition Report shall be released every year by the Government after a detailed survey.

Enlighten about POSHAN Abhiyaan

  • POSHAN Abhiyaan which was launched by the Prime Minister in Jhunjhunu on 8th March 2018
  • POSHAN Abhiyaan has been set up with a three year budget of Rs.9046.17 crore commencing from 2017-18.
  • All States and Union Territories to be targeted in a phased manner.
  • The Executive Committee is set to function in mode of convergence with various Ministries.
  • National Council on India’s nutritional challenges under chairmanship of Vice Chairman, NITI Aayog, has also been set up under the POSHAN Abhiyaan.
  • The Council shall submit report to the Prime Minister every 6 months. Secretary WCD being the Member convenor of National council, would formally request vice-chairman NITI Aayog to convene meeting of National Council on India’s nutritional challenges.

Inter- State Relations

Constituting the Mahanadi Water Disputes Tribunal Notified by the Ministry of Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation

The tribual will comprises of -

  • Justice A.M. Khanwilkar, Supreme Court Judge (Chairman).
  • Justice Ravi Ranjan, Patna High Court Judge.
  • Justice Indermeet Kaur Kochhar, Delhi High Court Judge.

Enlighten about the tribunal -

  • The Tribunal has been constituted following orders of the Supreme Court.
  • The formation of tribunal will be according to the provisions of the Inter-State River Water Disputes (ISRWD), 1956.
  • It will have a chairperson and two other members nominated by the Chief Justice of India from among the judges of the apex court or high courts.
  • The Tribunal is required to submit its report and decision within a period of 3 years which can be extended to a further period not exceeding 2 years due to unavoidable reasons.


MILES-18 Conducted as part of the tenth edition of MILAN

  • The first ever multi-nation naval exercise at sea called MILES-18 is being held in the Andaman Sea
  • Theme: ‘Friendship across the seas’.
  • Organised by – biennially hosted by Indian Navy under the aegis of Andaman Nicobar naval command
  • Participating countries: Australia, Bangladesh, Indonesia, Malaysia,Myanmar, Singapore, Sri Lanka and Thailand.

Why -

  • to expand regional cooperation and combat unlawful activities in critical sea lanes.
  • to enhance inter-operability between participating countries.
  • It also had enabled honing of search and rescue operations procedures, maritime interdiction operations, core operational skills and exercise and variety of maritime security scenarios.

Bilateral Relations

Indo-French Knowledge Summit

  • The first ever Indo-French Knowledge Summit was held recently at New Delhi.
  • The summit coincided with the state visit of French President Emmanuel Macron to India.
  • Agreement on mutual recognition of educational qualifications between the two countries and a record 15 other MoUs between universities and research institutions on joint initiatives and partnerships.

Franco-Indian Education Trust

  • A Franco-Indian Education Trust was also unveiled at the closing session of the summit.
  • It will be funded by the Indian industry and French Companies in India to offer educational scholarships and merit based financial support to Indian students.
  • The Knowledge Summit is the First Franco-Indian Summit for university, scientific and technology cooperation
  • The summit was organized by the French Embassy in India and co-hosted by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India.


‘Ex Samvedna’ A Multilateral Air Force exercise Spearheaded by Indian Air Force and conducted by Southern Air Command (SAC).

  • first composite HADR Air exercise in the South Asian region
  • Focused on practicing Air Force centric HADR solutions in a Multi-national cooperative Disaster Management environment.
  • It is aimed at setting up a scenario of pre and post Tsunami disaster requirements and guide participants to work out Air Force Centric HADR solutions.
  • ‘Samvedna’ means ‘Empathy’ and will ensure better understanding and sharing of response procedures between a number of friendly neighbouring nations.
