Successful Test Firing of Brahmos with Indigenous Seeker

  • BrahMos, the formidable supersonic cruise missile with indigenous seeker was successfully flight tested at Pokhran test range in Rajasthan.
  • The supersonic cruise missile and the seeker have been developed jointly by DRDO and BrahMos Aerospace.
  • The precision strike weapon with indigenous seeker flew in its designated trajectory and hit the pre-set target.

Enlighten about seeker technology

  • The seeker was developed by Research Centre Imarat (RCI), Hyderabad, in collaboration with other DRDO labs.
  • The seeker technology, which determines the accuracy of a missile, is a closely guarded secret. Mastering it is a significant milestone in missile technology and would reduce import dependence.

Enlighten about BrahMos

  • BrahMos is a joint collaboration between India and Russia and the missile is capable of being launched from land, sea, sub-sea and air against surface and sea-based targets.
  • Its range was initially capped at 290 km as per obligations of the Missile Technology Control Regime (MTCR). Since India’s entry into the club, the range has been extended to 450 km and the plan is to increase it to 600km.
  • The Army and Navy have already inducted the missile, while the air-launched version was test-fired for the first time last year from a modified Su-30MKI aircraft.

Smart India Hackathon 2018 Grand Finale, to be held simultaneously at 28 different nodal centers across India

  • Smart India Hackathon 2018 – is scheduled to be held on Mar 30 & 31, 2018
  • Hyderabad is the nodal centre for Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, which is a ‘Premier Partner’ in this initiative.

Enlighten about Smart India Hackathon (SIH) 2018

  • This platform gives an opportunity to students to use their creative skills in solving some of the country’s real life problems and he hoped that outcome of SIH 2018 will result in innovative solutions which can be commercialized”
  • Smart India Hackathon 2018 would be the second massive scale hackathon initiative in India following Smart India Hackathon 2017.
  • It includes 2 sub-editions – Software edition, which is a 36-hr software product development competition and scheduled to be held on Mar 30 & 31, 2018.
  • The Hardware edition, involving building of hardware solutions will be held later this year.
  • During the software edition grand finale, teams of thousands of technology students will build innovative digital solutions for problems posed by different central govt. ministries/ departments.

Enlighten about the project

  • The project will be set up at cost of Rs.120 crores in an area of 150 acres.
  • It will also set up Central Institute for Plastic Engineering & Technology (CIPET) and Plastic Recycling unit at Deoghar
  • The park will manufacture range of polymer products as in woven sacks, moulded furniture, water tanks, bottles, pipes mosquito nets, etc.
  • It will also generate a great potential for attracting investment for setting up ecosystem for plastic industry

Agriculture

The Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare and Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship

  • They have signed a MoU to conduct skill development training programmes for agriculture and allied sector.
  • These skill development training programmes will be conducted at Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVKs).

Enlighten about KVK

  • KVK is a project of ICAR (Indian Council of Agricultural Research)
  • It generally deals in testing and transfer of Agricultural technologies at grassroot level and the centres are located in very state.
  • First KVK, on a pilot basis was established in 1974 at Puducherry under the administrative control of Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, Coimbatore.

Indian Council of Forestry Research and Education (ICFRE) and Technology Information, Forecasting & Assessment Council (TIFAC)

  • Signed MoU to provide livelihood opportunities and augment income of forest based communities.
  • TIFAC is an autonomous council under Department of Science and Technology headquartered in New Delhi
  • It was established as a registered Society in February 1988.
  • It is mandated to assess state-of-art of technology and set directions for future technological development in India in important socio-economic sectors.

Integrated Scheme for Development of Silk Industry

  • Central Sector Scheme “Integrated Scheme for Development of Silk Industry” for the next three years from 2017-18 to 2019-20.

  • Central Silk Board (CSB).

Enlighten about the scheme

  • To achieve self-sufficiency in silk production by 2022. To achieve this, production of high grade silk in India will reach 20,650 MTs by 2022 from the current level of 11,326 MTs thereby reducing imports to Zero.
  • The core objective of the scheme is to improve the productivity and quality of silk through R&D intervention.
  • Under Seed Sector, Seed Production Units will be equipped and strengthened to bring in quality standards in production network, besides increasing the production capacity to cater to the increased silk production target.
  • The focus of R&D intervention is to promote improved cross¬breed silk and the import substitute Bivoltine silk so that Bivotine silk production in India enhances to such a level that raw silk imports become nil by 2022 thereby making India self-sufficient in silk.
  • All the beneficiaries under the scheme from silk farmers, seed producers and chawkirearers will be brought on a DBT mode with Aadhaar linkage. A Helpline will be set up for timely redressal of grievances and all outreach programmes.
  • Brand Promotion of Indian silk will be encouraged through quality certification by Silk Mark not only in the domestic market but in the Export market as well.
  • Use of silkworm by-products (pupa) for poultry feed, sericin for cosmetic applications and product diversification into non-woven fabrics, silk denim, silk knit etc. will be given thrust for added value realisation.
