The 90th Academy Awards Oscar awards announced

  • The 90th Academy Awards commonly referred to as Oscars was held at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, Los Angeles, California (US).
  • The award presented in 24 categories by Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS), honouring best films of year 2017.
  • The Shape of Water won the most number of awards totaling to four at the ceremony after it was nominated into highest 13 categories.

  • It is famously known as “Oscars”
  • It is a group of 24 artistic and technical honours that recognizes excellence in cinematic achievements in US film industry.
  • It is given annually by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS). The award was first presented in 1929.
  • The winners are awarded a copy of a statuette officially called the Academy Award of Merit (famously referred as Oscar Award)

National Virtual Library of India

What it is –

  • The idea was to have a massive online library, where resources from across fields available in all possible forms, could be collated and made available on a single platform

Enlighten about it –

  • This is the quantum of multi-lingual ‘knowledge resources’ to be made available in the form of documents, books, images, audio, videos and other forms
  • Spearheaded by the Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC), headquartered in Pune
  • The massive the National Virtual Library of India (NVLI) will be an online platform covering tens and hundreds of fields, ranging from arts, music, dance, culture, theatre, science and technology to education, archaeology, literature, museums, cartography maps, e-papers and manuscripts, among others.
  • This programme is a part of the National Mission on Libraries initiated by the National Knowledge Commission under the Ministry of Culture.

India, Vietnam ink three MoUs on nuclear, economic and trade cooperation Global centre for Nuclear Energy Partnership

  • India and Vietnam on Saturday inked three Memorandum of Understandings (MoUs), including on cooperation between the Global Centre for Nuclear Energy Partnership, India (GCNEP) and the Vietnam Atomic Energy Institute (VINATOM)

  • Global Centre for Nuclear Energy Partnership is World's first nuclear energy partnership centre at Bahadurgarh Haryana, India
  • This center will facilitate deliberation and discussions of international experts on various issues including innovation in nuclear reactors and the nuclear fuel cycle, development of proliferation-resistant reactors, security technologies and the effects of radiation exposure

Facts

HeliTaxi First helicopter shuttle service Launched in Bengaluru, Karnataka

  • The maiden trip of helitaxi was between Electronic City and Kempegowda International Airport in Bengaluru.
  • It was provided by Thumby Aviation.
  • The decision to launch HeliTaxi was announced in August 2017 by Union Minister of State (MoS) for Civil Aviation Jayant Sinha.

Enlighten about HeliTaxi

  • It provides connectivity between Airport and Electronic City (located in south about 70 km from airport in the city centre), home to hundreds of technology firms
  • It has reduced travelling time between airport and Electronic City from two hours (by road) to 15 minutes.

India by the Nile (IBN) festival 2018 5th edition is being held in Cairo, Egypt.

Enlighten About India by the Nile festival:

  • It showcases a range of Indian cultural output, including contemporary and classical music, dance, puppet theatre, visual arts, food and yoga.
  • It is the biggest foreign festival in Egypt and encourages artistic collaborations between the two countries.
  • This year, the festival will also bring two new events, a fashion show and screening of the Indian movies.
  • The festival is organised by the Embassy of India in Egypt and the Maulana Azad Centre for Indian Culture in collaboration with entertainment company Teamwork Arts.

National Mission for Manuscripts (NMM)

  • Works in documentation of Indian manuscripts

  • National Mission for Manuscripts seeks to unearth and preserve the vast manuscript wealth of India.
  • Users can get information about National Mission for Manuscripts, its history, organizational setup, objectives, partners, etc.
  • Information about Indian manuscripts, documentation of manuscripts, manuscript studies, conservation, digitization, seminars, exhibitions, school programme, etc. is also provided.
  • NMM has documented 43 lakh manuscripts and digitized 2.85 lakh manuscripts till date: Culture Minister
  • The manuscripts are possessed by the owners of the manuscripts. The National Mission for Manuscripts (NMM) obtains manuscripts data in soft copies from the Manuscripts Resource Centres (MRCs) established in State Archives, Universities and Institutions having large deposits of manuscripts.
