Wings India 2018

  • The four-day biennial event ‘WINGS INDIA 2018

Organising bodies –

  • Jointly organized by Ministry of Civil Aviation and Airport Authority of India and FICCI got underway in Hyderabad today.
  • The theme of the four-day biennial event this year is ‘India-Global Aviation Hub’.

Enlighten about WINGS INDIA 2018

  • It is a platform for interactions, forging alliances, investments and air connectivity between the States and the global aviation players & stakeholders.
  • The four-day event will witness the presence of 125 exhibitors and 35 CEOs.
  • WINGS 2018 will also see representation from 10 countries.
  • The conference will focus on fostering partnership to transform Indian aviation and the role of conducive regulatory framework to facilitate growth of civil aviation market.

Enlighten about Academy Awards

  • It is famously known as “Oscars”
  • It is a group of 24 artistic and technical honours that recognizes excellence in cinematic achievements in US film industry.
  • It is given annually by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS). The award was first presented in 1929.
  • The winners are awarded a copy of a statuette officially called the Academy Award of Merit (famously referred as Oscar Award)

Wings India Awards

  • FICCI is set to launch its maiden edition of ‘WINGS INDIA AWARDS’ for Excellence in the aviation sector.
  • The awards will be conferred upon the Aviation-related Companies/Institutions/Organizations in 14 categories.

Freight Village to come up in Varanasi

  • The Inland Waterways Authority of India proposes to develop a“freight village” in Varanasi.
  • The objective of the project is to support economic development in the hinterland of the multimodal terminal at Varanasi and reduce logistics cost in the Eastern Transport Corridor and its influence zone.
  • It envisages establishment of multimodal logistics hub in Varanasi to promote the use of waterway transport on river Ganga (NW-1) between Haldia and Varanasi and of rail transport on Eastern Dedicated Freight Corridor (EDFC) in the North bound direction which facilitates movement of freight from road to water and rail.

  • The nominations for the Women Transforming India Awards were opened during the launch of the Women Entrepreneurship Platform (WEP) today at NITI Aayog.
  • The theme of the Awards this year, ‘Women and Entrepreneurship

Enlighten about KIP

  • 40 participants of Indian Origin from 9 countries attended 46th edition of Know India Programme (KIP).
  • Madhya Pradesh was partner state of this edition.
  • As part of the initiative participants visited Madhya Pradesh, Parliament House, President’s House and attended orientation programme at the Foreign Service Institute Know India Programmes (KIP)
  • KIP is initiative (scheme) of Ministry of External Affairs for Persons of Indian Origin (PIO) between the age group of 18 to 30 years.
  • The scheme was launched in 2004 and has so far had 40 editions in which some 1,293 PIO youths have participated.
  • KIP is three-week orientation programme aimed at promoting awareness on different facets of life in India as well as the progress made by country in fields such as economic and education.
  • It offers platform for young PIOs(18 to 30 years) to visit India share their views, experiences and expectations and forge closer bonds with India.
  • The participants are selected on basis of nominations received and recommendations of heads of Indian Missions and posts. The participants are provided all the hospitality in India.

European Bank for Reconstruction and Development approves India’s membership(EBRD)

  • EBRD has given their nod to India’s candidature to international financial institution.
  • India will become the 69th member of EBRD.
  • The move follows Indian Government’s application to seek membership of EBRD back in December 2017.
  • European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) EBRD is a multilateral developmental investment bank.
  • It was established in 1991 after fall of the Berlin wall to promote private and entrepreneurial initiative in emerging Europe.
  • It is headquartered in London, United Kingdom.
  • It was initially focused to help former Communist states build their economies after Cold War and then expanded to support development in more than 30 countries from central Europe to central Asia.
  • It works only in countries that are committed to democratic principles, using investment as tool to build market economies.


Indian Navy concludes two month Long War Game

  • The Indian Navy concluded a gruelling two-month long War Game on 28 Feb 18.
  • The extensive War Games saw the participation of all the operational ships, submarines and aircraft of the Navy
  • The War Games conducted on both the Seaboards of India extended from the Northern Arabian sea off the coast of Gujarat to the Southern Indian ocean off the Sunda Straits near Indonesia.
  • The War Game on the Eastern seaboard was codenamed ENCORE (Eastern Naval Command Operational Readiness Exercise) and on the Western seaboard the codename was Exercise Paschim Lehar. The War Games were the first of the kind to be conducted on both seaboards indicative of the Navy’s threat perceptions of a two-front war.

  • Coffee Board has applied for registration of Araku coffee under Geographical Indications to protect the unique identity of the coffee grown by the tribal communities of Araku Valley in Visakhapatnam district of Andhra Pradesh.
  • Arabica coffee from the Araku Valley area has gained popularity as a high quality speciality coffee internationally.
  • Coffee Board encourages the coffee growers to participate in the “Flavour of India-The Fine Cup Award” competition organised by Coffee Board every year.
